Report For Duty, Knobs!

Where did last week evaporate to? Ah yes! My goddess of a sister came to visit, and we had a whirl-windy, fabulous good time that was loooong overdue. Unfortunately, I was so busy zhuzhing and planning that I forgot to share the much anticipated info about the new kitchen hardware and accessories! So, instead of being a dutiful and diligent blogger I was fluttering around on a high of estrogen and serotonin all the while hatching fun sisterly schemes, comme ça:

If you are weird, like me, you will keep hitting the reload button on the video while snickering to yourself.

Anyway – now that the visit is over (and BOTH girlies are passed out napping after gymnastics), I can share the updates that were promised last week! Huzzah!

Here are pictures of the drawer pulls, before and after:

Of course the coat of fresh paint on the drawer fronts and the newly-installed flooring helped things out immensely, but the real stars are those sleek, stainless steel pulls!

We got them from Home Depot for only $18.98 for a pack of four! And since we only needed two packs, it was a quick and very inexpensive way to completely freshen up the look of the kitchen. We had lived with the mix-matched yucky brass pulls for far too long! And don’t be fooled by the price of these beauties – they are heavy and sturdy and feel incredibly luxurious in your hand. I was a little nervous because I ordered them online, but I was not disappointed!

Now, onto the subject featured in the title of today’s post: the new knobs!

Is it possible to actually fall in love with 16 little spheres of lucite? I had been researching and researching acrylic, glass and lucite cabinet hardware, ad nauseum, before I stumbled upon these beauties. I loved that they weren’t cut or beveled – just perfectly spherical.

Ok, so not that perfectly spherical. Stop glaring at me Johannes Kepler.

You know how much kids love bubbles? Well, that might come close to how I feel about these new cabinet knobs. In fact, my face looked nearly identical to the child’s in this photo when I opened the box containing our new hardware. There were squeals of glee and a bouncy little dance in the kitchen. At $5.94 a piece, they weren’t the very cheapest I could find, but for this level of jubilance, I’d say they’re worth it!

Just to refresh your memory, here’s a peek at the kitchen knobs before:

And after:

Bow chica wow wow! And even though we’ve now had these knobs for a week, I still find myself squealing and performing the happy dance whenever I enter the kitchen. Talk about a decorating pick-me-up! Tomorrow, I’ll have time to give you the low-down on all the accessories (hint: almost all were “stolen” from the girls’ room), but for now, let’s break down the budget:

drawer pulls: $37.96
cabinet knobs: $95.04
________________
$133

This, when combined with the total floor cost (including the new accent rug!) comes to $285 – which is a little higher than my original plan of just two hundred dollars, but now looking around at the brand new kitchen, I am beyond pleased. And to be fair, when “formulating” my budget, I actually hadn’t priced anything out other than the floor tiles. Next time I’ll know to account for preparatory materials and accessories, but luckily my Norwegian Month buffer was plentiful.

I’m still working on a few more projects in this room, and I’ll be sure to share updates on those DIY adventures as they’re completed! Bye for now. I hope you like!

xoxo,
CA
